The tools, one by one

SOLD CUT

Our app: a native Mac app that drives DaVinci Resolve Studio. It starts from the folder of raw files, syncs every camera and microphone, builds the project, then cuts from each person’s microphone with rules tuned on our own episodes, keeping every angle underneath the cut. The same app adds subtitles in 33 languages, YouTube titles, react layouts, split screens, jump cuts and clips. €150 once for two Macs, 3-day free trial. On one of our episodes the speaker was on screen 93.5% of the time and the analysis took 4 seconds. How it works.

DaVinci Resolve Multicam SmartSwitch

Built into DaVinci Resolve Studio since version 20. Blackmagic describes it as switching multicam angles automatically based on the active speaker. It works on a multicam clip you have already built and synced, and it costs nothing beyond Resolve Studio. Blackmagic’s announcement · our measured comparison.

AutoPod

A set of automatic editing extensions, built for Premiere Pro 2023+ and also offered for DaVinci Resolve Studio. Up to 10 cameras and 10 microphones, with social clips and jump cuts. $29 a month per licence, one computer per licence, 30-day trial on monthly billing. autopod.fm/pricing · AutoPod vs SOLD CUT.

AutoCut

A broad automation suite for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve on macOS and Windows. Its podcast tool switches cameras from each speaker’s audio track, with minimum and maximum shot lengths, wide and reaction shots; it is part of the AI Plan, $178.80 a year, with a 14-day trial. autocut.com · AutoCut vs SOLD CUT.

FireCut

Editing automations for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, including the free Resolve, on Windows, macOS and Linux. Automatic camera switching for podcasts is in its Pro plan for Resolve, $20.99 a month or $16 a month yearly, with a 7-day trial; its AI features need an internet connection. firecut.ai.

Podmate

Made for DaVinci Resolve, free and Studio versions, with camera changes based on the speaker and edits you revise with Resolve’s multicam tool. $29 a month with a 10-day trial. podmate.io.

SnapPod

A plugin for DaVinci Resolve that edits podcasts automatically, sold once for $250 with compatibility updates and two computers per licence. Its FAQ points out that most plugins only work with Resolve Studio, and its site describes it as being in beta. orsonlord.com.

podswitch

Runs in the browser: you upload only the audio, it decides the cuts from each speaker’s microphone level without looking at the video, and gives you an XML for Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or Resolve, each camera on its own track. A free plan for short recordings, paid plans from £7.99 a month. metamindz.co.uk/podswitch.

CutAgent

A different kind of tool: a general AI agent for DaVinci Resolve rather than a podcast camera switcher. You describe the edit you want in words and the agent carries out the steps in Resolve from your desktop, on macOS and Windows. Its SDK and command-line tool are open source; no price is published on its site (checked on 12 October 2026). cutagent.ai.

How to choose

  • You edit in Premiere Pro: AutoPod or AutoCut were built for it.
  • You use the free Resolve: FireCut, Podmate or podswitch say they support it; everything else needs Studio.
  • One or two cameras and you already build multicam clips: try SmartSwitch first, it is already in Resolve Studio.
  • A weekly multicam show in Resolve Studio on a Mac, and you’d rather pay once: SOLD CUT does the whole job from the raw folder to the cut, subtitles and clips. Try it free for 3 days.

Questions

Which tools work with the free DaVinci Resolve?

Since Resolve 19.1 the free version no longer runs scripts from other apps, so most tools need Resolve Studio. FireCut and Podmate say on their sites that they support the free version; podswitch works through an XML import.

Which ones are one-time purchases?

SOLD CUT (€150) and SnapPod ($250) are one-time purchases, and Resolve’s own SmartSwitch comes with Resolve Studio. AutoPod, AutoCut, FireCut and Podmate are subscriptions; podswitch has monthly plans and a one-off project price.

Do they need a microphone per person?

Microphone-based tools (SOLD CUT, AutoPod, AutoCut, podswitch) need a separate audio track per speaker. SmartSwitch can also work from the cameras’ own sound.
